Marigold flower training camp for farmers held

Kathua, Nov 7: Deptt of Floriculture organized a day long Marigold flower training camp at village Chack Desa Singh, Kathua with an aim to aware the farmers about the advantages of cultivation of flowers for commercial basis.
A large number of locals and farmers participated in the programme and interacted with the experts of floriculture department. The DC Kathua Zahidha Parveen Khan was the chief guest who inaugurated the programme.
In her inaugural address DC Kathua exhorted the farmers to adopt cultivation of marigold flowers to make their better source of income so exploit the several centrally sponsored schemes which are available with the govt of Jammu and Kashmir as well as department of floriculture. She also directed the department of floriculture to open its own outlets so that farmers may not suffer to sale their produce.
Director Floriculture K.K Sharma in his address said that the department has number of schemes for the flowers growers in order to boost the floriculture activities so all the flowers grower must come forward to get the benefits of schemes. He said the number of flower growers in Kathua district from three to 92 since 2010 and all of them are enjoying a good harvest resulting into healthy source of income. Dr Anamika Jamwal Entomologist and Dr Neerja (Plant Protection) spoke on various subjects and shared technical knowhow among the farmers about the commercial marigold cultivation. The speakers also briefed the gathering about the gladiolus cultivation.
They however underlined that marigold is one of the most important flowering annuals cultivated in India it has gained popularity on accounts of its easy culture and wide adaptability, wide attractive colors, shape, size and good keeping quality.
Experts maintained that Kathua district has a dynamic and suitable climate to boost the cultivation of such flowers. The Director Floriculture K.K Sharma also spoken on the occasion and said that the department has number os schemes for the flowers growers in order to boost the floriculture activities so all the flowers grower must come forward to get the benefits of schemes. He said the number of flower growers in kathua district from three to 92 till date right from 2010 to 2012 and enjoying the better result in the form of good income. So flower market has been expanding day by day for the last many years in Jammu and Kashmir so that every farmer should avail the benefit by contacting with the department of floriculture.
