JAMMU, Nov 7 : Former Minister and state NCP President Thakur Randhir Singh has urged for setting up Vegetable and Fruit Mandies in potential areas of the state so that the role of middleman can be eliminated and the growers are able to sell their produce directly to the companies on remunerative prices. Singh, who is also National Advisor of the Consortium of Indian Farmers Association (CIFA) welcoming the decision of the Union Government for allowing FDI in retail, said that with the coming up of malls will immensely benefit the growers and consumers. He said large parts of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Udhampur Districts in Jammu are famous for producing off season vegetables besides black mushroom, Anardana, Saffron and Kala Zeera in Kishtwar area, but the growers are exploited by Artis and middlemen and ultimately both growers and consumers get exploited at their hands.
