The 9th Shiv Khori Kesari Vishal Dangal Annual Wrestling meet is scheduled to be held at Government high School, Ransooin Udhampur district on Feb 17.
The meet is being organized by the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with the J&K tourism Department and Amar Memorial Trust Katra as part of annual three days Shiv Khori mela.
The decision to this meet was taken at a meeting held at Ransoo (Shiv Khori) in Pouni Block of Tehsil Reasi of Udhampur District under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur O.P. Kalandria who is also chairman of Shri Shiv Khori Board.
Shiv Kumar Sharma President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association appreciated Director Tourism Ajay Khajuria for sanctioning Rs. 30,000/- for the said one day wrestling event for making this meet a feature during the annual mela.
Giving details of the meet, Sharma, who is also treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, said that nearly 70 wrestlers from various parts of the state and outside besides BSF, J&K Police and Army will take part. Prominetn among them will be wrestlers from Jammum, Kathua, Udhampur, Budhal, Ramnagar, Rajouri, Roun-Domail, Reasi, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakote, Akhnoor, Bhumag, Delhi, Amrtisar, Pathankote, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
Babu Ram Pathania coach has been nominated as chairman of the technical committee. The others members of the committee Sardari Lal Dubey, R.S. Manhas, Rama Kant (Biju Shah), Pawan Kholi, Paul Chand, Ashok Kholi, Jagdish Raj Kholi, Ved Parkash Singh, Mast Ram, Vipan Kholi, Ramesh Chander, Bhagwan Singh, Krishan Lal Sharma, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Vijay Singh, Mohd Fareed, Lehar Singh and Lashman Singh who will conduct the Vishal Dangal smoothly.
Shiv Sharma said boarding and lodging arrangements for comfortable stay of the participants have been made at Hotel Basera and Subash guest house Katra. An amount of Rs 50,000/- is likely to be spent on hosting this wrestling meet which is being held during this grand mela since 1999. A free Langer for the pilgrims visiting the mela as well as the wrestlers is being organized by the Shiv Khori Mandali Katra for four days with the active co-opearation of the people of Katra.
