| Padmini Tikoo awarded doctorate in Sanskrit literature | | | Jammu | Feb 14 A prominent sitar maestro of the State and an alumnus of Banars Hindu University, Dr. Padmini Tikoo has been awarded Doctorate degree in Sanskrit literature by Rastriya Sanskrit Sansthan (RSS) deemed university, under the agies of Human Resource development Ministry, under the supervision of Sanskrit Scholar Dr.P.C. Shastri, Rtd. Principal of Jammu branch of RSS. Tikoo has been awarded U.G.C. teachers fellowship under FIP scheme and presently she is working as HOD Sanskrit Department in govt. P.G, Mollana Azad Memorial college. According to press release Dr. Padmini is the first and the only women of Jammu & Kashmir state having two Doctorate degrees in Indian classical subjects i.e. in classical language Sanskrit and classical music. Having full command in Sanskrit language and classical music, she was nominated as a member of subject of committee, written study material and conducted personal contact programme classes of Jammu university both in Sanskrit and music subjects. Combined yogic concept and classical music with special reference to Vaidic Yuga, Padmini is first to start yogic concert in the state during 2003 in an three days international conference on yoga where in presented practical demonstration of yogic meditation through classical music. She has also developed model method of teaching visually challenged community through Audio aids in college to have access to Sanskrit subject and presently is busy in popularizing the classical music among youths through Guru-Shishya Parampara. Beside Padmini holds the credit of accompanying great maestro Pt. RAvi Shanker and Ashish Khan or stage programmes.
