| Upper House needs to be dissolved in economicially poor state like J&K: SP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 29: J&K Samajwadi Party (SP) Core Committee held a meeting today under its President Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Ex-M.P to discuss the political scenario in the state particularly the MLC elections out of Panchayat quota and reiterated it demand of dissolving the upper house which is extra burden on govt exchequer.
The meeting noted that J&K being a economically poor state solely dependent on Central assistance cannot bear the burden of huge expenses being incurred In running upper house - the Legislative Council which has vividly proved to be a white elephant on state exchequer. It needs to be wound up like other states namely Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan etc.
State SP president Abdul Rehman said, "In fact, the Congress & N C here have reduced the Upper House to a rehabilitation centre for their blue eyed and faithful rejected & politically un-employed persons. "These four Members if added to the numbers of N C & Congress will again appear in siding with govt oppose the devolution of powers to the Panchayats & bring insult to the Panches & Sarpanches duly elected by public, he added.
Further endorsing the decision of party office bearers to boycott these election, the meeting appealed all the Panches & Sarpanches in the state to boycott these elections as it is the ruling alliance partners both the NC & Congress who already have slaughtered the constitutional institutions in the state - particularly the Panchayat Raj Institutions during last 65 years and the powers of Panchayats have been badly misused by politicians, Legislators, Ministers & the bureaucrats.
"And now, instead of holding elections to Chairman Block Development Councils have resorted to befool the masses again through their massive false speeches, propaganda & hollow promises, SP state president alleged.
The meeting appealed all prudent Panches & Sarpanches not to fall prey to the hollow & promising speeches of Ministers & Legislators, boycott these elections in the name of their honour & integrity |
