Rajouri protests against custodial killing of youth

Atleast eleven people including five police officials were injured in police –publc clashes in border district Rajouri here today. The people were protesting against the killing of a youth in police custody at police station Rajouri last night. Besides, the protestors also damaged nearly half a dozen government veichcles with stones. However, the situation was brought under control only after police used tear shells in air to disperse the protestors in the afternoon.
Giving details, sources said, last night a police party from police station Rajouri picked up a youth identified as Showket Ahmed(24) son of Mohd Latief from Chapprian area in the vicinity of town in connection with a theft case of the same locality. The boy was picked up at about 9 pm from his house by a police party led by HC Gian Chand and was straight brought to police station where he was given third degree torture by the cops. At about 2 am the boy collapsed and died in the police station due to the torture alleged family members. Soon after, the boy collapsed he was shifted to hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
As the news of the custodial killing of boy in police station spread in the town on wedness day morning the people came on streets and started raising slogans against the police beside pelting stones on veichles and other government properties. Within an hour, the mob swelled more than one thousand and started damaging government properties and pelting the cops on duty with stones stones in which at least five cops got injured and number of veichles damaged. In the retaliation shown by the police six protestors also received injuries. Later in the afternoon when the protestors turned again violent the police was forced to burst few tear shells in the air only after which the protestors dispersed. However, the special team of doctors who conducted the post-mortem of the deceased refused to comment over their findings . The situation in the town was still tense till these lines were filled to press. Meanwhile , SSP Rajouri Farooq Ahmed Khan has ordered the suspension of five cops including SHO police station Rajouri Showket Ahmed Malik with immidiated effect further assuring that an ipartial investigation of the incident would be conducted . Only after the assurance by the administration that serious action would be taken against all those responsible for the incident and the culprits will be booked without any sympathy the protesterors got pacified and took the body for its burial.
All the political parties and social organisations have condemned the incident saying that the culprits be booked under murder section and the family of the deceased should be given compensation by the government in the shape of government job and net financial assistance. Kuldip Raj Gupta a senior BJP leader YNC leader Shafqat Mir, Advocate Vibodh Gupta, Rajouri Beopar Mandal President Rajesh Gupta and BJP youth leader Pushpinder Gupta while condemening the incident have demanded that the culprits must be booked under murder section of the constitution.
