| Farooq, Geelani may retard pace of peace process: PDP | | | Jammu,February 15 The PDP leadership has blamed the National Conference patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah, and Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who heads the hardliners in the separatist camp, for adopting a negative approach while airing their views on the political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. The General secretary of the PDP, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, today said"it is unfortunate that on one hand Dr Farooq Abdullah had started accusing our party leadership of stabbing the congress, with which we share power, and Geelani dubbing Mufti Mohd.Sayeed as an agent of Government of India." He said that in the light of improvement in the security scenario and in the relations between India and Pakistan the stance being adopted by Dr Abdullah and Mr Geelani could retard the pace of the ongoing peace process. In his latest interview on a Jammu based TV channel,Take One Dr Abdullah had accused Mufti Mohd.Sayeed of "stabbing the congress in the back" by demanding withdrawal of security forces from the PDP leaders and troops from within the state. The National Conference patron had said that the demand for demilitarisation was simply a "gimmick" on the part of the Mufti for winning the support of the electorates as the poll date was drawing near. He also stated that the PDP was preparing to pull out of the coalition Government. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who heads Tehrik Hurriyat Conference, had in a recent statement dubbed Mufti Sayeed as an agent of the Union government. He stated that as a confident of Delhi the Mufti would usually raise a demand which he knew the Centre was going to accept. In this connection he referred to the demand for demilitarisation and said that the centre may go in for a "symbolic" withdrawal of troops and the PDP leadership would take the credit for it. The PDP leaders, including Mr Bhat, requested Dr Abdullah and Mr Geelani to adopt a "positive approach"and desist from maligning the name of Mufti Sayeed whose organisation had been in the forefront of the exercise on restoring peace to the state.
