| REDUCTION IN PETROL PRICES welcomed | | | Jammu, February 15 Terming the reduction in prices of petrol and diesel ahead of budget 2007 as big surprise, people in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday welcomed the UPA govt 's decision and said it would check trend of inflation. They also expressed hope that prices of goods of daily use would also fall as soaring prices of essential commodites, pulses, vegetables, spices and other products had destablised their home budgets. The decision which was taken at the highest level after Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Petroleum Minister Murli Deora met Prime Minister DrManmohan Singh received thunderous applause from the general public from all walks of life " The reduced petroleum prices had given us an opportunity to experiment with our home budget as the quantum of saving would be enormous, a housewife in Gandhi Nagar area, Renu Pandoh said. She expressed hope that with reduction in prices of petrol the cost of items of daily use would also fall. Motorists, employees, school going children,university students and pension holders also welcomed the decision of the centre govt for reducing price of petrol by Rs 2 and that of diesel by Rs 1.Majority of people hoped that the decision would be a permanent and not a temporary exercise to check the soaring graph of inflation. |
