| EU hails Indo-Pak reconciliation process | | | NEW DELHI Feb 16 Appreciating continuation of Indo-Pak dialogue process despite last year's Mumbai blasts, the European Union (EU) on Friday said "trust" between the two neighbours is "key" for regional integrity and they should stay course with regard to reconciliatory steps. The 25-nation European body, which has been admitted to SAARC as an Observer, also emphasised the need for SAFTA implementation and offered to share its experience. EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who arrived here on Friday morning on a five-day visit during which regional issues will be discussed, said improvement of relations between India and Pakistan could "bring tremendous benefits" to not only the two countries but the whole region. "Trust between India and Pakistan is the key to success to regional integrity," she told a select group of journalists soon after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. She expressed happiness over continuation of Indo-Pak dialogue process even after "terrible" blasts of July last year in Mumbai. India had blamed Pakistan-based agencies for the serial blasts on commuter trains that killed nearly 200 people and injured over 800, and suspended the dialogue process. The dialogue resumed in November last, two months after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf met in Havana on the sidelines of NAM Summit. "We support very very strongly the reconciliation process that is there between India and Pakistan and encourage them to stay course," the EU official said.
