| Harsh opposes move on increasing LA seats | | >>Reiterates demand on five year term for state assembly | | Jammu Feb 16 Strongly opposing Government’s move to create 28 more seats in the Legislative Assembly by adopting method of proportionate increase of 25 per cent in all the three regions, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) leader Harsh Dev Singh today said that 52 seats each should be given to Kashmir and Jammu regions. He also said that the assembly term in J&K should be five years instead of six. Talking to media-persons here this morning, supremo of the party, MLA Harsh Dev Singh said that delimitation of the constituencies should be aimed at rectifying the political imbalance between the regions and not to further widen the gulf. The proposed bill to increase seats of the Lower House by adopting formula of 25 per cent proportionate increase will widen the regional imbalance and may lead to the division of the State, he added. Addressing the mediapersons, Harsh Dev criticized the government for not celebrating the golden jubilee year of the state constitution and said that this should have been done in right earnest. The Panthers MLA further said that constitution of Jammu and Kashmir does not include the words secular and socialist and this shows the disregard we have for this supreme document. “The constitution is based on these principles and this is a surprising omission”, he added. On the issue of Roshni Act, he said that there should have been debate on this issue, adding that this act was passed post haste. “What about the land which has been grabbed in cities. Who will account for that”, he demanded to know. The Panthers leader further demanded that the Assembly session should be curtailed to five years and brought at par with other Indian states. “Why should the session in Jammu and Kashmir be more than five years? Harsh also urged upon the Centre and State Government to share the responsibility to rehabilitate more than one lakhs displaced persons from the border along LoC and International Border in J&K who were forced to leave their homes and hearths due to continuous shelling from across the border.
