| Improved Indo-Pak relations to open new vistas of economic activity: Soz | | | Srinagar, February 17 Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz has said that improved relations between India and Pakistan will not only strengthen people to people contact but also open up new vistas of trade and economic activity in the sub continent. He said that opening of new routes between the two countries particularly in Jammu and Kashmir would boost fruit industry besides generate employment for a big chunk of unemployed youth. Addressing a public meeting at Tujarsherif Sopore today, Professor Soz said that central government is very liberal in funding the state for improving road connectivity, health, education, agriculture, horticulture, drinking water, power sectors etc which he said is imperative for speedy development. He said under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme, massive development programme is in progress in Jammu and Kashmir which would change the overall profile of the state. He said the state suffered a severe set back during militancy adding that the situation is now fast improving. He called upon the people to extend their cooperation to the government in restoration of complete peace and normalcy which would usher the state to a new era of prosperity, progress and Khushali. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Handicrafts Development Corporation Haji Abdul Rashid Dar said since the present coalition government assumed office, the state has witnessed a sea change at all fronts of socio-economic development. He said the government has embarked upon a massive reconstruction programme. Later, the Union Minister laid the foundation of Budshah Pond at Tujarsherif estimated to cost Rs 1.60 crore. On completion, the pond will provide irrigation facility to 5000 kanals of land in 5 villages of the area. Senior leaders of Congress, besides officers of district administration were present. |
