Anantnag/Kulgam, Jan 8: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation activists today locked Deputy Commissioner's office here after he refused to come out from his office for pacifying angry people protesting non-availability of basic amenities in the town. The activists led by Advocate Arshid Hussain Baba held a protest demonstration against shortage of essential commodities especially Power and LPG. They carried banners and placards accusing the district administration of failure to address the problems. However, when the DC refused to come out of the office, the protesters locked his office. An activist, Muha-mmad Afzal told Early Times: "We approached DC and repeatedly appealed him to come out and pacify the people but he refused and remained inside." Meanwhile, people in Anantnag district alleged that the Deputy Commissioner Anan-tnag did not camp in the district and leaves for his cozy Srinagar residence. "For the first time we have a deputy commissioner who isn't stationed here. Were will we go in emergencies if he is not available", a local said. They have sought Divisional Commissioner's intervention. |
