IAY Hut allocation scam: Former BDO suspended

ANANTNAG, Jan 8: The three member team constituted to probe the IAY (Indira Awaas Yojna) Hutment allocation scam in Dachnipora block of Anantnag district has indicted former Block Development Officer (BDO) in its report. Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Farooq Ahmad Shah confirmed that former BDO has been put under suspension for fair probe in the said allegations. According to official following the basis of the inquiry report submitted to the concerned authorities, the Director Rural Development Department has recommended strong action against the said officer. "However, the three member team once again visited block danchnipora and Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch Srigufwara today for further probe into the allocation of IAY Hutment since 2010, sources said furher adding, "as maximum number of huts have been allotted in 2010." Taking cognizance of the news reports the authorities formed a three member inquiry team headed by Assistant Commissioner Development Pulwama to probe the said scam, they added. Sources also revealed that the inquiry committee in its report raised finger of suspicion towards the former BDO, Abdul Raoof Banihali for allegedly allotting the hutments for monetary benefits in violation of the set rules and norms. Sources inside the department revealed that former BDO has been suspended for fraudulently allotting the hutments to the political activists and kith and kins of officials posted in the block during his tenure. Director rural development department, Kashmir, Mir Altaf Ahmad, confirmed that he has recommended strong against the officer. "Yes on the basis of the initial inquiry report I have recommended action against him but it is now up to the administrative department what action they are going to take," the director said.When contacted Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Farooq Ahmad Shah confirmed that former BDO has been suspended. DC Anantnag said, "Following inquiry report the former BDO has been suspended. He also added following allegations in other case former BDO Qazigund too has been suspended.
