| Bhim Singh calls on Home, Railways Ministers | | Seeks intervention for Talwara migrants, railway construction | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 8 : Chief patron of National Panthers Party (NPP) Prof Bhim Singh met the Union Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Union Railway Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal separately on Tuesday and sought their urgent intervention for ensuring safety and security of the political activists as well as appropriate intervention in Jammu and Kashmir. Prof Singh impressed upon the Union Home Minister to ensure that the balance amount of relief due to the Jammu (Talwara) migrants is released without any delay. He told the minister that Rs 21 crore of relief due to the Jammu migrants hailing from Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Reasi "has not been paid in spite of the affidavit filed by the Government of India and State Government in the Supreme Court to clear the balance." He also regretted that relief amount in respect of Kashmiri migrants was doubled in 2004 whereas the Jammu migrants were kept in the old scale. He accused both governments for the discrimination against the Jammu migrants which was apparent on the face of it. Prof Singh also sought intervention of the Home Minister to ensure that appropriate security cover is provided to the Panthers Party leaders in the militancy-effected areas. He charged both National Conference and Congress for discriminating with the Panthers activists "for the reason that this is only secular, nationalist and democratic state party in opposition in J&K which has been irking the ruling alliance." Prof Singh during his meeting with the Railway Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal urged him to ensure that railway construction lines work between Udhampur and Katra, Katra and Banihal is taken up on war-footing without any delay. |
