10 injured, 4 critical in Sumo accident at Doda

Kishtwar, Jan 8: In another tragic accident in Chenab Valley, 10 persons got injured, four of them critically when a Tata Sumo bearing registration No: JK3C-5489 meet with an accident near Kharra Doda some 40 KM from District Headquarter Kishtwar on Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway this morning. According to reports, the ill-fated vehicle left Kishtwar Bus stand for Srinagar at around 7.30 AM and while reaching near Kharra, the vehicle meet with an accident at around 8.30 AM as a result of which the vehicle plunged into deep 200 meter gorge.
Eyewitnesses said that due to low water level in river Chenab, the vehicle landed on its bank and did not submerged into the river water. As soon as the news of the accident reaches Doda and Thatri, officials of police, administration and local people rush to the spot and evacuated the injured persons to District Hospital Doda from where four critically injured persons identified as Pancham Singh son of Naib Chand resident of Khorara Prem Nagar, Shakir Ishaq son of Mohammad Ishaq resident of Marwah, Mohammad Ashraf son of Abdul Samad resident of Chatroo and Majid Javed son of Javed Iqbal Wani resident of Marwah were airlifted to Government Medical college Jammu for advance treatment.
Another injured identified as Iklaq Hussain son of Mohammad Ishaq resident of Marwah was also airlifted to Jammu since both of his relatives were in critical condition. The other injured persons presently undergoing treatment at District Hospital Doda were identified as Shameema Begum wife of Bashir Ahmed resident of Sarkoot Kishtwar, Abdul Majid Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Lolab Kupwara, Uzma Wani daughter of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Banihal, Yasir Ahmed son of Mohammad Ramzan Wani resident of Sounder Dachhan and Surinder Kumar son of Ram Nath resident of Poochal Kishtwar. As per the doctors, the condition of all the 5 injured presently under treatment at District Hospital Doda is stable and all are out of danger. The cause of the accident is said to be the frosty road condition caused due to prevailing cold.
