| Lieghton ignoring local contractors in tunnel construction, alleges PYC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 8: Pradesh Youth Congress has urged the government to keep watch on the Lieghton company engaged for the construction of Chenani-Nashri tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for its anti-employees and anti-local attitude. Addressing a press conference at Batote which was organized by the AYC President Rashid Malik, President from Udhampur-Doda Constituency Pankaj Basotra said that some workers from Lieghton met him during his tour of Ramban and Banihal and complained the anti-workers attitude of the management of the company. The local contractors also met him and complained that the company has engaged even the small contractors from outside who are backed by the high profile politicians and bureaucrats while the local contractors are ignored at every stage, Basotra further said. The workers also complained that the company has appointed agents outside the working area for deciding the fate of poor workers and employees. Basotra also said that the company has failed to full fill the agreement to engage more than 75% local workers and the local administration is watching like mute spectators. He said that some anti social elements are also working for the company and they always tried best to take the employees and workers under threat so that their voice could not go out of the working place. LYC President further said that there is a nexus between the local administration, management of the company and some anti social elements and all are working for anti workers for their personal benefit and the youth congress has took the matter with the local administration but all in vain with the reason best known to all as the company's management is also obliging some politicians and bureaucrats to crush the poor workers and employees. |
