PKM organizes Shivratri Milan
2/18/2007 11:49:48 PM
Jammu | Feb 18
The Panun Kashmir Movement (PKM) organized a Shivratri Milan Programme today at Jammu. A special executive meeting was held on the occasion, which was attended by the Executive council members of the PKM, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, PKM presided over the function. Sanjay Kaul, past President of Kashmir Overseas Association (USA) was the Special Guest in the programme while the office bearers of Kashmir Displaced Sikh forum participated in the programme as Special invitees. A press conference was also held on the occasion.
It was decided in the meeting to conduct the 14th Annual general Meeting of the PKM on 15th April 2007 at Jammu. The Maanav Adhikar Samman given on the occasion of AGM has also been renamed as Guru Tegh Bahadur Maanav Adhikar Samman in honour of the sacrificed made by the revered Guru to uphold human and fundamental rights, as per the release.
The Panun Kashmir Movement (PKM) has been watching the recent development on Kashmir with keen interest and these developments at regional, national and international levels have a bearing on the fate and future of the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community and the other minorities of the J&K state. The Draft report on Kashmir of the European Parliament’s Special Rapporteur Baroness Nicholson while making mention of the Kashmiri displaced people falls short of mentioning the actual ground situation regarding the refugees and displaced people living in the state. Its over-emphasizing the issues relating to the earthquake in J&K state and particularly in POK is a one sided story while the Kashmiri Pandits- the real victims of human made catastrophe, are living a life of refugees in their own country. The territorial claim of Kashmiri Pandits on Kashmir as indigenous people of Kashmir justified their demand of Homeland and particularly so when they have all along been refused co-existence by the majority community in Kashmir and are living in exile for the last seventeen years.
The Annual Report of the State Human Rights Commission released recently has not only dealt the subject of displacement, human rights abuses and the appalling situation of the camps of the displaced community. It vindicates our stand that the Commission has been reduced to a paper organization by the State Government. The initiative of the Prime Minister of India on working Groups on Kashmir last year has not yielded any tangible results for the displaced community. Even after one year of their establishment, the displaced community has not received any attention by the governments concerned.
