Musicians enthral audience in Abhinav Theatre

Jammu, Jan 8 : Delhi musicians mesmerized the lovers of music at a function of 'Sufi Ghazal' organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at K.L. Sehgal Hall, Abhinav Theatre Complex Jammu here this evening.
The programme featured light and semi-classical singing of Ghazals, Thumri, Dadra, and Sufi Singing by Ghulam Ahmed of Delhi who was accompanied by versatile Instrumentalists of Delhi like Ustad Kamal Ahmed Khan on Sarangi, Dilshad Ahmed Khan on Harmonium and Wasim Ahmed Khan of Tabla.
Earlier welcoming the guests, the Regional Director of ICCR Jammu, Balwant Thakur said that within few months of the opening of ICCR's Jammu regional centre, we are bringing before Jammuites its 15th programme in the form of a Sufi Ghazals. Earlier ICCR Jammu organised two International programmes featuring the music and dances of Zambia and Democratic Republic of Laos in addition to a Mega cultural show celebrating the cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir featuring 200 artists.
Ghulam Ahmed started his programme with Dadra in the Bandish of Raag Khamaaj 'Maan Jayo Saiyan Paddhoon Tore Paiyaan' and transported the audiences to his world of diverse music repository through his soulful singing. The Ghazal 'Be Irada Nazar Unse Takra Gai' took the programme to a new horizons. Learned the tradition of Ghazal Singing under his father Ustaad Zamir Ahmed Khan, Ghulam Ahmed has the credit of having performed in most of the European countries in addition to Afghanistan, Mauritius, and South Africa. Apart from being an accomplished Ghazal Singer, he is also an established Tabla player and enjoys the distinction of having accompanied the most celebrated singers of India. His team of musicians is also widely travelled and having performed globally, particularly Ustaad Kamal Ahmed Khan who is an internationally acclaimed Sarangi player. In today's programme Ustaad Kamal Ahmed's Sarangi playing was one of the major attraction which won repeated appreciations. Those who graced this rarest musical evening included Dr. Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Khalid Hussain, Dr. Jatindra Udhampuri, Dr. Lalit Magotra, Savita Bakshi, Dr. Lalit Gupta, Krishna Kumari, Javed Rahi, Raman Salathia.
