| Stay on Santosh's death penalty a ‘normal process’: KP activists | | | Jammu | FEB 19 The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday stayed the Delhi High Court order, awarding death penalty to Santosh Kumar Singh in the Priyadarshini Mattoo rape and murder case. The 'Justice For Priyadarshini' Group, (JFPG) which had campaigned earlier in 2006 for retrial in this case in a statement, said, that it's a normal procedure and Law should take its own course. Aditya Raj Kaul, youth activist and initiator of Justice For Priyadarshini campaign said,"We friends, family and campaigners of Priyadarshini Mattoo are not disheartened with the Supreme Court staying the death penalty, it's a very normal process. Nothing big has happened today," "We have full faith in the Indian Judiciary and the investigative agency in this case i.e. CBI. Hopefully, Supreme Court will upheld the judgment given by the High Court after hearing the CBI" he added. Adi Razdan, another activist of the Justice For Priyadarshini group said,"The verdict given by the division bench of the High Court in October 2006 reversing the trial court's version was a benchmark judgment. As clearly mentioned by them, Santosh was found guilty of rape and murder and thus deserved nothing less then death" Sanjay Peshin, another member of JFPG said, "The High Court in its judgment had also clearly mentioned, By acquitting the respondent despite being convinced that there was no doubt in the prosecution case (at least for the offence of murder) the trial court has mauled justice, its decision has shocked the conscience of the court. This as well gives us hope of justice in Supreme Court." United Students, the youth group of Delhi, which was a fellow initiator of this campaign, has also said that they have full faith in the Indian Judiciary and Law. They said Mattoo case was pending for 7 years and it's an 11 year old case now, we just hope that the final judgment to this gruesome crime comes fast. |
