| Return Congress to power in Uttarakhand: Sonia Gandhi | | | DEHRA DUN |FEB 19 Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday called upon the Uttarakhand people to rise above petty issues and ensure the return of the Congress Government in Uttarakhand for just and dynamic governance.
Addressing an election rally here, Ms. Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of crying foul after a five-year period of non-performance as a responsible Opposition in the State.
"Had there been corruption or malpractices during the five years, the BJP would not have kept mum. Please do not get carried away by the false propaganda of the saffron party and strengthen the Congress to continue the pace of development ushered in by the Narayan Dutt Tiwari Government," she said.
She charged the Opposition parties with spreading rumours to destabilise the development process being ushered in by the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre.
"You have gained much in terms of Central assistance and the large number of industries that have come to Uttarakhand, the better roads, education and health facilities are all due to the untiring efforts put in by the Congress Government." She promised greater Central assistance if the people returned the Congress to power.
Ms. Gandhi recounted the strong bond her family had with Uttarakhand and praised Mr. Tiwari for having laid a strong foundation for the rapid development of the new State.
Mr. Tiwari urged the people to become part of the movement to develop the State in as a vibrant economy by voting back his party to power.
