Passport details of the Pakistani nationals travelling by the Samjhauta Express in which explosion occurred in Panipat last night have been sent to Islamabad for verification, government said today while promising action against perpetrators of the "gruesome" crime.

A number of Pakistani nationals have been killed in the incident that happened about 100 kms from here, many of them charred beyond recognition, External Affairs Ministry said here.

However, the exact number of Pakistanis killed was not yet clear as identification is going on, Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters here.

A team of Pakistan High Commission officials has reached Panipat to help in the identification process.

Sarna said passport details of those Pakistanis travelling on the ill-fated train have been sent to Pakistan for verification.
