| UPSC to hold competitive examination on July 24 | | | JAMMU, Feb 19 Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold a competitive examination for selection of candidates for appointment as Special Class Apprentices in Mechanical Department of Indian Railways. The examination will be held on 22nd July, 2007 at 41 centres throughout the country including Jammu and Srinagar. The approximate number of vacancies to be filled on the basis of the results of the examination is 25. However, the number of vacancies is liable to alteration. Candidates desirous of taking part in the said examination must have attained the age of 17 years and must not be more than 21 years as on Ist August, 2007. However, the upper age limit is relaxable as per rules and regulations stipulated by the Government from time to time. For admission to the examination a candidate must have passed in the first or second division, the intermediate or an equivalent examination of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least Physics or Chemistry as one of the subjects of the examination. Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can e purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices, throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/-. Applications, complete in all respects, must reach the "Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New dewlhi-10069" either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by Courier on or before the 19th March, 2007. However, in respect of applications received from the candidates only by post (by speed post/post) residing in J&K and other remote and inaccessible areas, the last date of receipt of applications is 26th March, 2007. UPSC has clarified that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.
