Pahari Cultural Forum reiterates demand for ST status

Criticizing the Centre and the State Governments of their failure in accepting the genuine and legitimate demand to grant Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari speaking people of Jammu and Kashmir, Pahari Culture and Welfare Fourm Mendhar, in a meeting chaired by Kamaljeet Singh District President, has threatened to accelerate its stir for acceptance of this long pending demand.
The meeting which was attended by office bearers, working committee members and representatives of district and provincial committees reiterated its demand for ST status to the Pehari Speaking people of the State.
The meeting took serious notice of the delaying tactics being adopted by the Centre and the State Governments over this demand and said that despite commitments by the ruling party leaders nothing substantial has been done to mitigate the sufferings of the community.
The meeting threadbare discussed the future course of action and decided to hold dharnas and protest rallies to focus the attention of the authorities towards this legitimate demand of the community.
Addressing the meeting, Kamaljeet advised the tehsil committees to elect block committee for Mendhar, Mnkote, Harni, Gursai and Balakote so that the Forum is strengthened and a decisive struggle launched for accomplishing the demand for grant of ST status to the community.
The meeting also decided that a deputation of the community would meet Mrs Sonia Gandhi UPA Chairperson and apprise her to plead the cause of the suffering Pehari people.
Those who attended the meeting included Barkat Singh Azad, Moulvi Muneer Hussain Shah, Mohammed Khurshid Mir, Rashid Malik, Mughal Hussain Khan, Mohammed Sadeeq, Mohammed Iqbal, Fiaz Mohammed, Fazal Ahmed Khan, Mohammed Sadiq Khan ,Mohammed Aslam and Mohammed Illyas
