| Three ultras killed, two arrested | | | Srinagar: Three militants, including a self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed and two ultras affiliated with Al Badr outfit arrested in separate operations in Pulwama, Baramulla and Srinagar districts since last night, official sources said today.
A top Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Irshad Ahmad Bhat alias Tufail was killed alongwith his close associate in an encounter with a joint search party of Border Security Force, Rashtriya Rifles and police at Kamla Buchoo forest in Awantipora area of Pulwama district early today, the sources said.
They said the identity of the other deceased militant could not be ascertained immediately. However, a chit recovered from him revealed his name as Akbar Bhai of Uttar Pradesh.
In another encounter, the sources said security forces killed one militant during search operations at Kadoora village of Bandipora in north Kashmir Baramulla district early today.
Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the deceased, whose identification and group affiliation is being ascertained, the sources said.
They said militants set off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to target security vehicles at Shokhbaba road in Bandipora area last night but none was hurt in the explosion which missed the intended target.
Two Al Badr militants, Umer Nazir and Muzaffar Ahmad Darzi, were arrested by a joint naka party of CRPF, Rashtriya Rifles and police in Parimpora area of Srinagar last night, a CRPF spokesman said. |
