Road connectivity key to faster development: Taj
Rs. 26 cr 35 road projects under execution in Uri

Jammu, February 20
With a view to provide better road connectivity to the people of hilly and border Uri tehsil of Baramulla district special attention is being paid to execute new road projects and upgrade existing ones said Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din while reviewing the pace of progress of various road projects under implementation in Uri.
Minister said that 35 mega and mini-road projects costing Rs.26 crore have been taken up during last over 4 years in the area under various state and central schemes. He said several road projects have been completed so far while as others are in progress.
He said Pahalipora, Lachipora, Nambla-A to Nambla-B, Salamabad to Giohalau roads have been taken up under PMGSY at a total cost of Rs.7.19 crore while as road projects costing Rs.18.33 crore are in progress under NABARD, which included Rs.2.76 crore Shahadra-Kamalkot road and Rs.2.55 crore parlel road. He said 4 new road projects have also been sanctioned under NABARD in the area and work on these projects would be started during current financial year.
Minister was apprised that under BADP Rs.1.20 crore have been utilized for upgradation of various link roads during last 4 years. Besides construction of hospital complex Uri, allopathic dispensary Gharkot, Laboratory block Girls Higher Secondary School Uri, food godown Chandenwari and sheep Husbandry centre Sultan Dakki have been completed at a cost of Rs.1.01 crore during the said period.
Minister said that better road connectivity is essential for socio-economic transformation of hilly and far-flung areas, therefore, various innovative step have been initiated by the government to speed up development of roads in these areas adding that upto 2009 all unconnected villages and hamlets would be connected with better roads under Bharat Nirman Programme.
He asked the engineers to work with more devotion, dedication and redouble their efforts for speedy completion of roads, besides ensuring use of standard material in execution of developmental works. He also called upon them to monitor progress development projects and punctuality of the field staff at the project sites.
Mr. Taj also called upon people to keep close vigil on construction works under execution in their areas and should inform concerned ADDC for taking necessary action if they find that works are not as per specification.
