Gandhian forum awards given

Jammu, February 21
J&K Gandhian Society awarded gold medals, certificates and shawls to Mr. M. S. Wadoo, renowned authority on forests, Principal of the Government College for Women Parade Mrs. Indira Rathore and out standing social activist Mr. Sanjeev Batia at a function held at Government College for Women here today.
Mr. Wadoo was awarded Nehru gold medal for his extraordinary research work on forests of Jammu and Kashmir and publication of book entitled “Trees of Heritage”. Whileas Mrs. Indira Rathore received Indira Gandhi gold medal for her laudable service as an educationist of par excellence and her contribution in this field. Mr. Sanjeev Batia got the Rajiv Gandhi gold medal for his excellent social work.
The awards were presented by Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma who also presided the function attended by galaxy of learned audience including scholars, teachers, intellectuals, prominent citizens, media persons and large number of students.
Minister for Forests Qazi Mohammad Afzal was guest of honour on the occasion. Mr. Qazi planted a Chinar sapling in the garden of the college. He said Chinar signifies great heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and speaks high of the people’s care for plant protection. He said this spirit has to be inculcated in young generation making them to actively participate in afforestration drives and working for conservation and preservation of forests.
Introducing the extraordinary services of the award winners, noted Gandhian worker and social activists Mr. S. P. Sharma said that awards have been conferred on the winners for their excellent, rememberable and great service to the state and the people.
Secretary Kashmir Society Mr. Mohammad Rafi Khan welcomed the participants and award winners and gave resume of achievements of the awardees.
MLA Mr. Yashpal Kundal, Director Information Khawaja Farooq Ahmad Renzu, Director Floriculture, Mr. K. K. Sharma, noted Gandhian worker Mr. S. P. Sharma, Joint Director Information Mr. S. K. Sharma, Secretary Kashmir Society Mr. Mohammad Rafi Khan were present on the occasion.
