| SRTC to be procure another fleet of 40 buses | | | Jammu, February 21 Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today convened a high level officers meeting to review the implementation of the decisions taken by the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad on February 03, 2007 to streamline the regulation of transport system in the state. Speaking in the meeting Minister said that government would raise “Passenger Welfare Fund” in the state as was directed by the Chief Minister and the process would be started from Ist of March 2007 on the anology of Police Welfare Fund. He said for the purpose administrative Department would be asked to make rules to this effect. He said the fitness board in the Transport Department would be reconstituted and directed to replace all those employees who have long stay at one place to ensure transparency in the working of the department. He announced that government has decided to purchase 40 special buses at a total cost of Rs.5.50 crore which would be operated in the hilly districts and in accident prone areas of the state. He said Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) would be made functional with immediate effect in all the 14 districts of the state so that checking of over loading in the buses is intensified besides handling the other related issues adding that staff would be made available to the ARTO from the SRTC till the proper selection is made through the SSRB against the available vacant posts. Hakeem Yasin said that other directions of the Chief Minister would be implemented in a time bound manner. He said government is committed to provide timely and comfortable transport facilities to the people saying that for the purpose measures of urgent nature are being taken at different levels. He said that under centrally sponsored scheme measures are underway to provide computerized facilities to the transport and its line departments. He said that so for the facilities have been provided to the Regional Transport Offices at Lakhanpur, Jammu and Srinagar besides ARTO offices of Leh and Kargil from where computer licenses are being provided to the transporters. He said that about 110 seized vehicles would be kept at the disposal of the ARTO’s and DSP’s of Traffic Department for use in traffic checking. The Minister asked the concerned officers to initiate strenuous measures to increase revenue adding that during 2005-06 the Motor Vehicle Department has realized the revenue of Rs.48.44 crore which is expected to cross over Rs.60 crore by the end of this financial year. He directed to issue the fresh license after proper verification and fulfilling all codal formalities. He directed that the wearing of uniforms by the Motor Vehicle Department checking staff, drivers and conductors must be ensured at any cost. He announced one time amnesty for those transporters who have not registered their vehicles so far and directed for registration of such vehicles with in next 15 days. Among others the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Paramodh Jain, Commissioner Secretary to Transport Mr. Davender Nargotra, IG Traffic Mr. A.R. Mir, IG Police Mr. Javaid Makhdoomi, Transport Commissioner, MD SRTC and senior functionaries of the department attended the meeting. |
