| Security lapses, corruption on both sides of Samjhauta Express | | |
JAIPUR, FEB 21 Notwithstanding claims by Railway ministry and other concerned authorites about tight security in Delhi-Attari Samjhauta Express, many Muslims from Rajasthan who often travel to Pakistan by this train say there are instances of security lapse and corrpution in the system.
Many of them alleged that railway employees, customs and immigation officials are bribed sometimes in order to get hasslefree journey.
Many residents of Ramgang Bazar and Jalupura localities here, which are dominated by Muslims, have their relatives in Pakistan and they regularly go by Delhi-Attari route.
Nawab Ali, who had to attend some function at his relatives house of his sister in Karachi, went by this train on December 18 and said "as far as Old Delhi railway station is concerned, I have not seen any kind of great security measures".
In the general coaches, sometimes passengers have to be bribe the ticket-checker in order to sit or to sleep, he said.
Abdul Rashid, a resident of Jalupura, claimed customs officials on both the sides, while checking the luggage keep with them some of the gift items carried by passengers.
Naeeem, who runs a travel agency in Sikar district of the state, said "I have my maternal relatives in Sindh province of Pakistan. So, I have been to Hyderabad, Meerpur Khas and Karachi. I think the security of any train or bus running between India and Pakistan needs to be strengthened".
