| Twin sisters die in boat capsize | | |
ELAVOOR (KERALA), FEB 21 The residents of this sleepy village were shaken by the death of 18 residents, 15 of them children, in a boat capsize but none more so than Ashokan and Ratnamma, who lost their twin daughters in the mishap.
The distraught couple's daugters Aswathi and Amrita were part of the group of students from St Antony's School that had gone to Thattekadu bird sanctuary yesterday when the accident occurred.
The inconsable parents, who also have a son, are yet to come to grips with the tragedy as a steady stream of people made their way to their home today to pacify them.
As soon as Ashokan heard about the mishap, he rushed to the hospital, hoping against hope that his daughters would be safe, his relatives said.
But to his horror, he saw his daughters among the dead and fell crying on their bodies.
Ashokan said his daughters had left for the school picnic in their new uniforms.
The funeral of the two sisters is scheduled for tomorrow as the family is waiting for some relatives from abroad.
Thousands of people from different parts of Ernakulam district paid homage to the dead when their bodies were kept at the school here today.
