| LC Polls: 4 independents among 13 candidates in fray | | | JAMMU,FEB 21 While nine candidates from major political parties-Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference filed their nomination papers for Legislative Council elections today, though having bleak chance to win, four independent candidates have also joined the race. Four congress candidates filed the nomination forms to Returning Officer, Secretary Legislative Assembly Mohammad Iqbal Ganai in presence of the Pradesh president Peerzada Mohammad Sayed. President Omar Abdullah and leader of Opposition in Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather accompanied National Conference candidates at the time of filing of their papers. Peoples Democratic Party which was last to announce the names of candidates for the polls, entrusted Finance Minister Tariq Hammed Kara and former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Biag to accompany them during the filing of papers. The party has named National Conference descendent Nizam-u-din Khatana and Murtaza Khan as its candidates for the LC elections. . Those who filed the papers from Congress are R S Chib, Muhammad Sharief Niaz, Ali Muhammad Bhat and Muhammad Amin Bhat. NC has fielded Nasir Khan, Muhammad Yousuf Taing and Devender Rana Four independents Dr Hasrat Hussain of Kulgam, Haji Muhammad Din of Cheinyaz Gandoh, Fayaz Ahmad Ganai of Mattan Islamabad and advocate Om Prakash Talwar have also filed nominations for election to the Upper House. |
