| Announcement on tourism projects hailed | | | Jammu, August 2, 2006: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association has hailed the announcement by the Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who is also the Minister Incharge Tourism that four mega projects for tourism promotion are being implemented in Jammu city. With the railline extended to Katra, Jammu city is feared to lose its importance as the base camp of Vaishno Devi pilgrimage and as a result the adverse affect on the business in Jammu city, the city needs to be made an independent tourism destination, by fully exploiting its tourism and pilgrimage potential, the association has contended. As far heritage complex in Mubarak Mandi is concerned, AJHLA has suggested installation of the statues of Dogra rulers and other heroes in the complex, shifting back of Dogra museum from Srinagar to Jammu and developing a gallery in the Mubarak Mandi, where ancient Dogra dresses and weapons etc should be on display. In view of the current year's bitter experience of terrorist attacks on Amarnath pilgrims, the association has demanded that all the yatris going to Amarnath via Pahalgam or Baltal should be conducted under heavy security, from Jammu onward.
