LC elections: Nine nominations accepted

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 22
Nomination papers of 9 candidates have been accepted after the scrutiny of papers held at Assembly Complex here today. This was stated by the Secretary Legislative Assembly Mr. M. Iqbal Ganai who has been designated as Returning Officer for election of 8 Council seats which have fallen vacant.
In total 13 candidates had filed their nomination papers which included four members from Congress, two from PDP and three from National Conference while as four independents had also filed their nominations. After scrutiny, the papers of nine candidates have been found in order and nomination papers of four independents were rejected by the Returning Officer for not being complete in all respects.
Nomination papers of Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz, Mr. Mohammad Amin Bhat, Mr. Ali Mohammad Bhat, Mr. R.S.Chib of Congress. Mr. Murtaza Khan, Mr. Nizam-ud-Din Khatana of PDP and Mr. Devinder Singh Rana, Mr. M.Y.Taing, Mr. Nasir Khan of National Conference have been found correct and as such accepted.
The nomination papers of Mr. Fayaz Ahmed Ganai, Mr. Om Parkash Talwar Advocate, Haji Mohammad Din and Dr. Hasrat Hussain have been rejected due to non-fulfilling of required formalities.
February 24th is the last date of withdrawal of papers and elections, if necessary would be held on March 5,2007.
Prominent among others, the Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Tariq Hameed Karra, Minister for Agriculture Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar, Minister of State for Power, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Leader of Opposition Mr. A.R.Rather, senior leaders of Congress party, several MLAs and representatives of various political parties were present on the occasion.

JKTWA calls on Transport Minister
Jammu, February 2 (INFO) –A deputation of All J&K Transport Welfare Association (JKTWA) today called on the Minister for Transport Hakim Mohammad Yaseen and apprised him about various issues related to the Transport Industry.
While interacting with the deputationists, the Minister asked them to help in checking the menace of overloading in the passenger services in the State. Besides helping the authorities to check the load carriers operating in District Udhampur and Jammu carrying the load unathorizedly.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that overloading is the main cause of fatal accidents as such should be stopped totally. He said vehicular pollution besides creating health problems polluted the clean atmosphere and tell upon climatic conditions.
