| Fresh land slides block highway | | | Jammu,February 22 Fresh landslides triggered by rains continue to block vehicular traffic on the 300 km long Jammu-Srinagar National highway for the second consecutive day here today. Official sources said here today that SSP traffic national highway has also directed traffic department not to allow any vehicular movement on the national highway from either Jammu and Srinagar cities on Friday as hundreds of vehicles including passenger vehicles are already stranded at different places on the highway and posing many hardships to the authorities tasked to ensure safey of each one. The highway was blocked on Wednesday following fresh snowfall at Jawahar tunnel area followed by landslides at Panthyal 168 kms from here. According to official sources, the highway was thrown open for about hallf an hour to clear the rush of stranded vehicles but was closed down after fresh landslides forced highway authorities to stop movement of vehicles on the slippery road. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) pressed its men and machinery into service as and when the shooting of stones stopped, yet the clearance work continuously got disrupted.We are facing probems in clearing the road bloackages as shooting stones are disrupting the work, a senior highway authority supervising the road clearing operations said.
