| Week long de- addiction camp concludes | | | Jammu Feb-22 The week long de-addiction camp for drug addicts, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses,(JKSPYM), a national level NGO, concluded at Gandhi Nagar here today. The Society is running a de-addiction treatment centre in village Purkhoo and has been in the field for the last fifteen years. It has undertaken a project, funded by United Nations, to prevent HIV and other infections among drug users and their sexual partners. Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu Mukesh Singh, who was the chief guest at the concluding function, interacted with the people treated at the camp and their families and assured support from the Police department for their possible social rehabilitation. Free counseling, individual therapies, behavior change communication, information on HIV/AIDS, other blood- born diseases, general medical check up and recreational activities were part of the camp, which help the people to live a drug free life. According to Pallavi Singh Project Incharge and Consultant Dr Arun Sharma, the State has the high percentage of drug users’, particularly intravenous drug users. He said the Society has established a good rapport with the community and the JKSPYM team will continue to help those in pain and catch a glimpse of the irreplaceable sparks to ignite love and hope, a Society handout said.
