| Ban to continue on 32 terrorist outfits | | 31 ISI-backed espionage modules neutralised:Jaiswal | | SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, AUG. 2: The Minister of Statre for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal, has disclosed that as many as 31 espionage modules backed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) have been neutralised in various parts of India since January 2005. The operations by different police and security and intelligence agencies led to the arrest of 56 agents, including 21 Pakistanis. Sriprakash Jaiswal informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the government has been pursuing a well coordinated and multi-pronged approach to tackle the activities of the ISI. The approach is for strengthening border management, gearing up the intelligence machinery and by having closer coordination between Centre and state agencies, Jaiswal said in the House during the Question Hour. Replying to another question, he said that the available inputs did not confirm direct presence of the al-Qaeda in India.
Jaiswal also informed the House that 32 organisations continue to be banned as terrorist organisation under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 as amended in September, 2004. Union government's message was loud and clear: In the given situation, the ban on these organisations will continue. In his reply to another question, Jaiswal said that there had been demands to bring back the Prevention of Terrorism Act but the government was of the view that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, as amended in September, 2004, alongside the repeal of POTA, had provisions necessary to deal with various facets of terrorism. ===============
