Genocide of Shias continues in Pakistan
2/19/2013 12:15:29 AM

When over 81 civilians, most of them belonging to the Shia sect of Islam were killed, in Quetta in Pakistan on Saturday's worst ever bomb explosion it confirmed earlier reports about gradual genocide of the minority community in Pakistan. A non-official survey has revealed that more than 11,000 shias have been killed in various areas in Pakistan in terrorist attacks and in sectarian clashes during the last about 11 years. Out of these more than 6,000 women and children belonging to the Shia sect were killed in these incidents during the last about a decade. Shia muslims have been attacked by the Jehadist groups in mosques during prayers and on various groups of Shias were killed in bomb explosions triggered by the terrorists outside shia mosques after the end of prayers. Even the localities, inhabited by Shias, have been attacked by the terrorists belonging to the Sunni sect. According to reports, Shias have been targeted from time to time as part of a bigger conspiracy to eliminate the minority communities. Earlier sporadic attempts have been made to force Sikh and Hindu minorities to quit Pakistan. A large number of them have taken shelter in India during the last two to three years. But as far as Shia muslims are concerned agencies and elements, said to have the backing of various Government agencies and extremists, have been carrying out gun, grenade and bomb attacks. In a number of places affluent sections among the Shias have migrated to some foreign lands besides Iran.
The Saturday's terrorist strike in the neighbourhood of Quetta indicated a well framed plan of the Jehadi elements to eliminate as many as Shias as possible. Reports sad that as many as 81 persons, including women and children, were killed and over 200 injured when a powerful bomb ripped through a Shia neighbourhood of Quetta city in south-west Pakistan , the latest in a string of attacks targeting the minority community. The blast occurred at Kirani Road in Hazara town, a suburb of Quetta with a large Shia population that has been targeted by terrorists in the past too. What is painful is the way the terrorists usually strike crowded areas so that the bomb explosions could kill a large number of people. The area was crowded at the time of the blast. The bomb was hidden in a vehicle and triggered by remote control. Several women and children were among the dead. An estimated 100 kg of explosives was used in the attack which indicates that the attack was well planned and organised and that too by a group of terrorists trained in carrying out high voltage acts of subversive violence.
What is intriguing is the way the establishment in Islamabad continues to be unperturbed by these terrorists strike. At least any civilised Government is supposed to be worried and aware of the level of casualties in Pakistan during the last 12 years. A report has stated that about 45,000 people, including about 7,000 security personnel. Besides a large number of women and children were killed in terrorist-related activities and attacks during the last one decade. And as far as Shias are concerned over 10,000 of them have been killed in these terrorist attacks and in sectarian clashes. The report says that among the tot al number of causalities in the Shia sect 30 per cent have been women and children. Hence Islamabad and the Army in Pakistan are supposed to take serious note of it and frame a strategy to counter this development hastily and effectively. It seems Islamabad has no time to look into this problem as it continues to remain busy in kicking up anti-India campaign. Its interest remains tagged to the Kashmir issue and to the growth of its war machinery besides development in its nuclear weaponry system which it thinks was the only way to secure military, economic and political support from Washington and Beijing. It is time for Islamabad to open its eyes to its domestic problems and difficulties without instead of concentrating on anti-India activities.
