| Bomb hoax on two Mumbai trains | | | MUMBAI:
At least two calls claiming bombs being planted on a Western Railway commuter train and the Ratnagiri Express sent security agencies into a tizzy, but they turned out to be hoax, railway police said on Friday.
"There were at least two calls regarding bombs being placed in a suburban Virar-bound train on Thursday night as well as the Ratnagiri Express early Friday morning. However, after checking both, they were found to be hoaxes," a railway police official said.
The police said they received anonymous calls saying a bomb could be placed in a Virar-bound train between 7:00 am and 7:30 am and early morning in the Ratnagiri Express.
Railway police, which had been put on high alert since Thursday evening following a bomb hoax call in Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen Express, searched all the commuter trains thoroughly.
The searches between Churchgate and Virar were carried out and now "we are keeping a tight vigil in all the stations and doing our best without disturbing our services on the Western lines," a railway official said.
All the stations on the Western Railway are put on high alert and sniffer dogs deployed, the officials said.
Deccan Queen Express was halted for over an hour last evening after an anonymous caller claimed that a bomb had been placed on the train.
