| HC issues notice to the Excise Department | | Unemployed M Ed Software engineer seek class IV job | | Jammu | Feb 23 Justice Nirmal Singh of J&K High Court Jammu Wing, in a writ petition challenging the selection of 227 class IV employees in the Excise Department, today issued notice to Commissioner/Secretary Excise, Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes and Chairman State Level Selection Committee and directed the Registry to list this petition in the next week .The notice was accepted by Additional Advocate General Mr. BS Salathia, on behalf of State respondents. In its writ petition Mohinder Kumar claimed that he being BSc, B.Ed, M. Ed and Joyti Parkas having degree of B. Sc and Diploma in computer software applied for the post of class IV in the Excise Department advertised vide Notice dated April 2, 2005 .But after perusal of the final select list, the petitioners found that many of the candidates enlisted in the final select list, had not figured earlier in the short-listing. They were not called for interview and did not appear in the interview. How they have made their place in the final select list is a mystery. The petitioners, despite being much higher in merit and fulfilling physical and other requirements as per the advertisement notice, have been ignored and lesser meritorious selected at their cost, the petitioners claimed.. The petitioner prayed before the Court for restraining the respondent authorities from making appointment of selected candidates and also seeking direction to the respondents to adopt fair and transparent criteria giving adequate weightage to educational qualification and conduct the interviews and make fresh selections from the candidates who appeared in the interview.
