| Div Com inaugurates youth Red Cross unit | | | Jammu | Feb 23 A Youth Red Cross Unit, first of its kind in the State, comprising of 60 young dedicated Volunteers of Government Women College, Parade, Jammu, was inaugurated by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pramod Jain, who is also the Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, here today. The girls enrolled in the unit were earlier screened by a committee constituted for the purpose. In his inaugural address Jain said that he is very glad to inaugurate this unit, first of its kind in the State of J&K, and complimented the Jammu District branch for taking the initiative. He said that youth represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment. He asked Dinesh Gupta, Secretary of the Jammu District Branch to form YRC units in all educational institutions and create a work force of 5000 volunteers and assured all necessary support for the purpose. Jain said that the program should be designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities not only as workers but also as beneficiaries and partners in management. Dinesh Gupta briefed about the activities being done by the Red Cross locally and also the role the Youth Red Cross has to play in the days to come. Muzaffar Syed, Treasurer of the J&K State Branch of the IRCS in his address gave his blessings to the College students for joining YRC and assured for all material and any other kind of support required from the State Branch. He said that he is happy to be part of this special program organized by the Jammu District Branch. Shashi Koul, Officiating Principal of the Parade College while welcoming the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests assuring full support to the newly formed unit said that all programs of YRC will be implemented. Mahesh Gupta, Member-In-Charge YRC of the District Branch conveyed thanks to the college Management, particularly Principal Prof. Indira Rathore, Prof. Neeraj Gupta, Programme Officer and Prof. Ram Singh, 2nd Officer of YRC for their best co-operation in the formation of the unit and holding the inaugural function,
