| 4 poachers arrested along with 18 guns | | | Baramulla | Feb 23 The Wild Life department displayed the hunting guns and other weapons seized from the Poachers before media persons here today. While the illegal hunting has been rampant in the protected areas and sanctuaries in the valley from last couple of years, there had been frequent reports about the wild animals attacking people living close to these areas also. The government had to face huge opposition over the attacks by animals on the villagers that became more frequent during last year. According to wild life warden Hakurser Wetland Rouf Ahmed, the department has arrested four persons and has recovered 18 guns along with a vehicle from illegal poachers so far. He said that department has been trying hard to stop the illegal hunting which has resulted in extinction of many species in these wetlands. The most effected Hygam bird sanctuary wore deserted look with a few migrate birds present in the area. Wild animal poachers have reportedly been active in all major world famous wetlands and bird sanctuaries of the valley. Increasing pollution, encroachment coupled with illegal hunting has resulted in falling inflow of birds with every passing year.
