| J&K ideal hub for international trade & commerce: Azad | | Cargo & international flights can fetch good market in Canada for J&K products: Malone | | Jammu | Feb 23 The Canadian High Commissioner in India Mr. David Malone on his visit to Jammu expressed his confidence and appreciation about the landmark steps which are being presently taken by Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad for creating viable and congenial atmosphere for making the state as hub of trade and commerce activities. He expressed these feelings at a meeting held with Chief Minister Jammu and Kashmir State at Jammu. Chief Minister informed Canadian High Commissioner that both Government of India and State Government are keen to start the functioning of international airport at Srinagar this year. Similarly, railway link between Jammu to Katra and Baramulla to Qazigund will also complete this year. He said that the thrust of his government is to create efficient, reliable and quality-oriented infrastructure in all nooks and corners of the state so that trade and commerce achieve new dimensions and people who have suffered during last 18 years turmoil are able to enter in a new golden phase of economy. Chief Minister said that he is presently monitoring the work on international airport where at present three-working shift system is in operation. He said terminal has already become feasible for international operations but completion of other buildings and availability of airport infrastructure of international standards is likely to be completed this summer only. Similarly, the railway track for operation in the valley and from Jammu to Katra are also near completion. He said with the opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and Poonch-Rawalakote road, the steps are being taken to turn these roads for conducting trade activities. He said both UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh have taken personal interest in strengthening the peace process and create a situation where economy of the state takes upward graph. Chief Minister appreciated the role of Canadian businessmen who have invested liberally in India and hoped that world reputed companies of Canada will be briefed by Mr. Malone about the present atmosphere of the state which is fast moving towards prosperous economic activities so that all those companies are geared up to invest in the state as well. The Canadian High Commissioner informed Chief Minister that people of Canada have great appreciation for the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir State. However, their knowledge about various climates is limited, therefore, time has come to educate them about charm of Jammu and Kashmir State during summer when normally Canadians avoid to come to India having impression that entire India is hot during summer. Chief Minister said that tourism department of the state has already launched a serious campaign at national and international level to educate the people about tourism potential of the state in all seasons so that people arrive as per vacations and picnic times available to them as per their convenience. Chief Minister also informed Canadian High Commissioner about the vital role of newly created tourism development authorities for changing entire profile of tourist destinations by making these more captivating and attractive. Later, the 15-member delegation met Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha and Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad together at a separate function. Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister for Power Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Horticulture and Tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak and senior officers were among those present on the occasion.
