| Fisheries department organises awareness camp | | | et plus report Srinagar, Mar 2: To popularize fish farming, a Kissan Mela was organized under the centrally sponsored scheme at trout fish farm Mugal-maidan. Kissan Mela was attended by a large gathering from different localities. The purpose of the Mela is to popularize the fish farming and to educate the public about the welfare schemes of the department. Asstt. Director Fisheries Fayaz Ahmed Fayaz while interacting with the participants stressed that fish farming will generate lot of opportunities for the rural folk and has huge otential for uplifting the rural economy besides providing quality proteins to the masses. It will also reduce the gap between the demand and supply. He stressed upon the fish farmers to adopt the integrated fish farming and the latest technologies to enhance the output and economic efficiency. He also stressed upon the unemployed youth to establish their own units for their self employment. The participants made number of uggestions and demands which were noted by the departmental officers. It was also informed that the new fish rearing units in private sector are coming up in the district under the different schemes. About 225 fishermen have been registered by the department in the district and are provided insurance cover of Rs.0.50 lacs as accidental insurance cover. |
