| Thanamandi witnesses gun battle | | Women hostages safely taken out | | Thanamandi (Rajouri) | Feb 23
After a brief lull a gun battle was witnessed in open day light in Thanamandi town of border district Rajouri here today between militants and security forces on Friday morning; when people of Muslim populated area were preparing themselves for the Friday prayers. Earlier, in the month of Sep. 1997 similar type of action was carried out by militants in which number of army jawans had sacrified their lives for the sake of their nation. However, today’s operation carried out was intelligently and planned in which none of the civilian was injured or lost, army claimed.
The eyewitnesses said that at about 10 AM this morning three militants descended down from up side Raina Mohala in Thanamandi town and attacked at army party of 43 RR chasing them from down side in which one army Jawan identified as Hawaldar Anand Kumar of Gaziabad got killed on spot while two others received serious injuries. In the retaliation by army, one militant identified as Abu Ummer Khalid of Pakistan also got killed on the spot. However, another militant identified as Shahid Rasool alias Abu Mawia of Faiselabad Pakistan took shelter in a nearby house owned by one Naseer Ahmed Raina ZEO and took at least six women his hostage who had already gathered in that house due to the thrills of firing out side. On getting the information that some women were kept hostage by the militants, including an 80 years old women ,the army stopped firing till they were joined by special operation group of Rajouri police. Thereafter, the operation party led by Dy SP Tej Ram Katoch approached local Jamia Masjid imam(preacher) and an appeal was made to the militant to release the women hostages. After this appeal the militant let the women hostages free and started firing on the army from out side the house . “During this hostage drama one militant managed to escape from the cordon laid around the Mohal Raina”, said an eyewitness of the encounter. However, after an hour of his gun fight battle with the army and SOG , this militant Abu Mawia also got killed at the door steps of the house where he had taken shelter.
On conducting the searches of slain militant Abu Mawia, the security agencies were surprised when they found some web site addresses and e-mail addresses which indicated that the militant was using these web sites and e-mail for getting and delivering the information. The e-mail and web site addresses which were recovered from his diary were like this (www.alqoqaz.net, jihadvnspvn.com , www.upload.pk ) and e-mail addresses found were ([email protected] , [email protected])
Besides, the routine recovery which include two AK47 rifles , 5 magzine , 90 AK roands , one grenade, I D circuit , one transistor one BSNL sim card along with Nokia set model 6600,head phone cobra perfume four diaries and some eatable items including some medicines.
Speaking to early times , Brig.JAG Verma said that both the militants were the most wanted area commanders of LeT and their importance becomes much when “we found some web site addresses from their diaries” , he said adding that after going through these web sites he hoped that whole of the network can be busted. Tej Ram Katoch Dy. SP operations Rajouri who supervised this whole of the operation said that as per the web sites information found in the diaries of Abu Mawia it indicates that the militant was of high rank and was using high technology for his operations . Katoch also hopes to make big blast after going through these web sites and e-mail addresses. |
