| Joint checking of petroleum products continues | | | JAMMU | Feb 24 Pursuant to the directions of State High Court in Public Interest Litigation, a joint team comprising representatives from Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution Department, Traffic Police, Crime Branch and Indian Oil Corporation with their mobile testing laboratory have been carrying out on spot checking of different petroleum products at petrol pumps to check adulteration. Checking was carried out by the joint team at M/S Kohinoor filling Station, Barsoo, Awantipora and during testing adulteration was detected in the sample collected from the filling station. The sample of petroleum product drawn on spot by mobile Lab and did not meet the prescribed specifications. A detailed report was recorded by the Lab officer who accompanied the team and the dealer was advised to stop supply immediately. A report was also forwarded by CADP Kashmir to the Crime Branch. Since the unfair act on the part of concerned dealer warranted punitive action as such a case FIR No. 21/2007 under section 420, RPC 3/7 E.C. Act was registered against the accused. It is worthwhile to mention here that Crime Branch had earlier also taken cognizance of such cases when adulteration was detected in the petroleum products in respect of M/S Valley Petroleum Zakoora, Hazrabal and also at Syed Kirmani Filling Station, Narbal Budgam. Cases against the operators of these retail outlets are under active investigation of Crime Branch.
