| LC Polls : eight candidates elected unopposed | | | Jammu, February 24 Four candidates of the Congress party, and two each from the Peoples democratic party and National conference on Saturday comfortably made it to the upper house of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly. All the candidates were declared winners unopposed following withdrawal of the name of Nasir Khan by the National conference from the fray. Candidates from Jammu region were only awaiting formal announcement but fate of candidates from Kashmir was still hanging in balance as five candidates were in the fray for the four council seats.NC had surprised political adversaries by fielding three candidates but decided to withdraw the candidature of third nominee following decision at the highest level. Cousin of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Mohd Sharief Niaz, Senior Congressman RS Chib Ali Mohammad Bhat and Mohd Amin Bhat finally made it to the upper house on congress quota and, Murtaza Khan and Nizam-Ud-Din Khatana from the PDP . Davinder Singh Rana and MY Taing from the National conference were also elected unopposed, returning officer Mohd Iqbal Ganai said here. The elected candidates earlier reached civil secretariat complex in big processions accompanied by large number of supporters. In all 13 candidates were in the fray while nomination papers of the four independents were rejected by the returning officer during the scrutiny
