GoC visists artificial limb camp

Jammu, 25 February
The ongoing Artificial Limb Fitment Camp at Hamirpur, Bhimber Gali, Balakot Block by Army was graced by the presence of Major General Rameshwar Roy, YSM, General Officer Commanding, Ace of Spades Division. On the occasion Brigadier IS Singha, Commander Bhimber Gali Brigade, Professor Jagbir Singh, President Pritam Spiritual Trust Poonch and number of senior Army and civil dignitaries were present. During the six day long camp over 300 people from border areas of Poonch, Thanamandi, Surankot, Krishna Ghati, Mendhar, Bhimber Gali, Rajouri, Naushera, Udhampur and Anantnag have been benefited.
The camp began on 20 February, on the penultimate day.
According to a press release, over the past five decades people living near the line of control in Poonch and Rajouri districts have lost their limbs due to firing from across LoC, mine accidents and other terrorists action. Bhimber Gali Brigade took the onerous task of assisting the differently abled persons to acquire artificial limbs. The General Officer Commanding inspected the limbs prepared in situ in the workshop set up by the NGOs and himself fitted the limb on differently abled people and lauded the efforts of Bhimber Gali Brigade, Pritam Spiritual Trust, Poonch and NGOs in organizing the camp.
Civil administrative officials including Deputy Commissioner Rajouri addressed grievances of the local population at the camp. More than 300 people have been provided artificial limbs, polio calipers and aluminum crutches. This camp is also facilitating in screening of twenty cases where people require replacement of upper limbs. Five cataract have been identified for which plans are underway by Bhimber Gali Brigade to send these people to Military Hospital Rajouri and to provide treatment with the help of various NGOs. 16 differently abled persons who could not be given upper artificial limbs during this camp will be taken to New Delhi subsequently under the aegis of Bhimber Gali Brigade, said the PIB (Defence Wing) release.
