| United front of nationalists forces taking shape | | | JAMMU, FEB 25 United Front of Nationalist Forces, a brain child of Praja Parishad chief Chander Mohan Sharma, is gradually taking shape as the former BJP dissident has been able to secure support of Shiv Sena, Duggar Liberation Front, Duggar Desh Party and Refugee United Front to, as claimed, give voice to the people of the Jammu region in the state polity. Sharma said here on Sunday, “We have decided to form a united front of pro-Jammu forces for fighting against continued discrimination with the region by the successive state governments.” He said, “Our common minimum programme will be to force the government to ensure equitable distribution of funds for all the three regions and within sub regions to address the alienation among the masses living in remote areas. He said that as per the population and the area in the Jammu region it deserved larger number of Assembly seats. Explaining it he said that the Kashmir valley with lesser population and area had 46 Assembly constituencies against 37 in the Jammu region. Sharma stated that the Front would also agitate for equal devolution of funds for the valley and the Jammu region. He said that the road connectivity programme, power generation schemes, irrigation network, development of water bodies in the valley continued to get a lion’s share with the result the pace of development works in Jammu region had remained tardy. The new Front, he added, will also campaign for suitable rehabilitation of refugees from Pakistan and occupied Kashmir who continued to receive a raw deal as far as their citizenship rights were concerned. Since the Praja Parishad has plans of contesting the next Assembly election its alliance with four other organizations could pose a challenge to the BJP in the Jammu district. In fact the dissidence in the BJP and fielding of its candidates by the RSS backed State Morcha had mauled the BJP in 2002 Assembly poll when it could win only one seat.Though the State Morcha has been directed by the RSS against contesting any election the Praja Parishad has started drawing its strength from traditional supporters of the BJP who have been in the dissident camp,at one time or the other. These erstwhile BJP supporters had been close to Chander Mohan Sharma who had quit the BJP as its vicepresident, over two years ago, to revive the Praja Parishad. |
