| Azad raised hopes of ‘Khushal Jammu Kashmir’: Vikar Banhali | | | Jammu, Feb 25 Coalition government took over the rein of power in a state of Jammu and Kashmir when mis-governance and lack of accountability was order of the day. The people of the state had a dream of development and peace and it was based on these hopes that the Congress party was sent to power with a huge mandate. Addressing a press conference, senior vice president jammu and kashmir youth congress Vikar Rasool Banhali said that coalition has completed more than four years in government every Congress worker like me feel proud to be associated with the party which has not only come up to the expectation of the people but has generated a new hope of `Khushal Jammu and Kashmir’. He said, the Roshni Scheme, which guarantees ownership rights to the lakhs of farmers on state land across the state, is the latest example of great vision which the Congress party is having under the guidance of chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. The scheme is revolutionary which will benefit not only the farmers but the general masses of the state. “Beside the overall vision of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, I take this opportunity to appreciate the work done by the government in Banihal area”, he added. The people of the area had to suffer a lot due to the fact that the district headquarter was located at Doda, hundreds of kilometers away from the place. The creation of new district Ramban will not only help the residents to follow their grievances with more vigor but also accelerate the development. “Though faced with many problems that are natural while working within the coalition, Congress has succeeded in holding high its agenda of ‘Uniform development’ of all the three regions of the state” he said. Besides, initiating a massive development programme with the liberal funding by Congress led Government at the centre, congress leadership at the same time strived for restoring lasting peace in the state. “The holding of Roundtable conferences bears the testimony that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh are sincere in their efforts to redress the grievances of the all three regions of the state”, Vikar added. The PM’s Reconstruction Plan and other assistance through Bharat Nirman and their implementation in the stewardship of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have set in a new era of development in the state. Massive connectivity programme have been initiated in the state to provide road access to the neglected and far flung areas of the state to enable them to have their share in the trade and Commerce. The Congress led government has initiated inquiry into the ‘Fake encounter ‘cases which witnessed the arrest of two Senior Officials of police. Such a step is first of its kind taken by a government over 17 years of violence in the state. Such steps would definitely deter the elements who indulge in such activities, besides restoring the confidence of the people. My appeal to the government is that it should pay more attention towards restoring the confidence of the people by ensuring the safety of their life and property and to see that no civilian be unnecessarily harassed, It is a common complaint that people from far flung areas like Banihal and other hilly areas working in urban centers are looked with suspicion and even some times harassed by the security personnel. “I have been often approached by people of the area particularly those coming from Madrasas and serving in religious institutions are being harassed on the name of security” he said adding “it is my appeal to the Government that security forces should be asked not to harass such people who have nothing to do with subversive activities”,. These people usually come from downtrodden section of the society and opt for serving as religious teachers and Imams in cities to earn bread and butter for their families. He added. |
