| 336 cases out of 875 resolved at Mega Lok Adalat | | Legal awareness camp held at Srinagar Court Complex | |
Srinagar, August 02 –As a part of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, a Legal Awareness Camp was organized at Srinagar in District Court Complex wherein a large number of litigant public, lawyers, judicial officers and para legal workers participated. The object and purport of Lok Adalat was thoroughly explained by various speakers and they espoused the cause of free legal aid to poor, down-trodden and needy. Those who spoke on the occasion, include Mrs Gous-un-Nissa Jeelani, Mohammad Nazir Fida, Mohammad Yousuf Wani, Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone and senior advocate, Mr. N.A. Ronga. The function was presided over by Principal District and Session Judge Srinagar Mr Mohammad Yaqoob Mir. Addressing on this occasion, Mr Mir impressed upon the litigant to adopt the path of reconciliation and seek resolution of maximum disputes through Lok Adalat, as this alternative mode of dispute resolution avoids bitterness among the litigating public and helps creation of a welfare society. He stressed upon the judicial officers, lawyers and supporting staff to translate the dream of Hon’ble the Chief Justice, Mr Justice B.A. Khan of achieving the target of zero pendency into a reality. Principal District Judge Srinagar who is also Chairman, District Legal Services Authority later on inaugurated a Mega Lok Adalat wherein as many as nine Benches, seven at Srinagar and one each at Ganderbal and Kangan, took up as many as 875 cases for settlement. 336 cases were finally resolved. A sum of Rs 33,07,000 was awarded as compensation in Motor Accident Claims Case. A sum of Rs 1,30,650 was realized from the accused persons involved in violation of Traffic and Labour Laws. Several matrimonial disputes and other related cases were also settled. Later, Mr Mir thanked Insurance Companies, Lawyers, Judicial Officers and Litigant public for having made the Mega Lok Adalat a grand success. |
