| 2-day Skiing Cup concludes at Gulmarg | | Div Com distributes prizes | | Srinagar, February 25 The National and State level Ski competition concluded at world famous, tourist resort Gulmarg today. Organized jointly by the Tourist department, Winter Games Federation of India and Gulmarg Developmental Authority, 35 Skiers from various parts of the country including 12 from the state took part in the tournament. A large number of Ski lovers witnessed the events as a result of which Gulmarg presented a festive look. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Mr. Basharat Ahmad who was the chief guest at the concluding function today distributed prizes among the winners of various events of Ski Cup. In his address, Mr. Basharat Ahmad said that winter sports play a key role in the promotion of tourism in the state which goes a long way in improving the socio-economic condition of the people. He lauded the efforts of Tourism department for organizing such events which, he hoped would help in exploring the latent talents of our budding youth. He stressed for organizing such events at other tourist resorts in the valley. The Skiers who displayed excellence in various events include J. Jem Yung Nimegeyal, Stenzen Faknoor, Aarif Khan, Rinchan Darva, Sukh Chand Singh, Gupta Bahadur, Tashi Lantruk and Vinod Kumar and were awarded by the Divisional Commissioner. Director Tourism Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah declared the Ski Cup 2007 open yesterday. Among others present on the occasion were Chairman, SDA Mir Naseem, Chief Executive Officer, GDA Mr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Managing Director, Cable Cargo Project and Winter Games Federation of India Mr. S. Panthi.
